Trapped within the mountainous interior of South Africa, the landlocked nation of Lesotho is facing a double-edged medical crisis. Its dire poverty and inefficient government has made Lesotho one of the epicenters of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and other medical problems. At the same time, the country's financial hardships have created a massive "brain drain" of medical expertise, with local doctors fleeing to neighboring countries where they get higher wages with a better quality of life. All is not lost though. Doctors, nurses, patients and international aid workers are banding together to fight the crisis. But they cannot do it alone. 'Mountains of Hope' is meant to both entertain audiences and draw their attention to people in desperate need of it.

While this film was stuck in a program with 3 other far too similar shorts, I appreciated the effort to balance the political, personal and professional perspectives on the issue.
